South Node in the 9th House
With the South Node in the ninth house (and the North Node in the third), your innate competence is the big picture: you know belief, travel, the grand theory, the truth seen from a height. But it is also the height you hide on, preaching certainties, chasing the next horizon, skipping the humble particulars right in front of you. Under stress you retreat into abstraction and the faraway. The work is to keep your love of meaning while releasing the need to already know, leaning instead toward curiosity, the local and the immediate, and the patient learning that comes only from listening to what is near.
Lean in — Learn from the near, the local, and the particular.
Watch for — Preach a far-off truth and ignore the question at hand.

- Forrest, The Inner Sky (1984)Forrest reads the South Node as the over-developed, comfort-zone pole of the nodal axis; in the ninth house it marks the familiar competence and the rut to release, with growth toward the North Node in the third house.
- Sasportas, The Twelve Houses (1985)Sasportas locates nodal growth by house; the South Node in the ninth house is the area of life one over-relies on and retreats into, to be balanced by the third-house North Node.
- Greene, The Astrology of Fate (1984)Greene treats the South Node as inherited, effortless capacity that becomes a regressive rut under stress; in the ninth house it is the past one must consciously release rather than hide within.
