True Node
Modern
In modern and evolutionary astrology the North Node marks the direction of growth: the unfamiliar, often uncomfortable qualities you are here to develop in this life. It is the path forward, what you are stretching toward, as opposed to the South Node's well-worn comfort. Leaning into the North Node by sign and house tends to feel awkward at first and rewarding over time. Read it to find where conscious growth is asked of you.
Traditional (Hellenistic)
The North Node, the Caput Draconis or dragon's head, is the point where the Moon's path crosses the ecliptic going north. In the older tradition it was treated as a point of increase: like a benefic in its effect, it was held to amplify and add to whatever it joined, for good or ill depending on the company it kept. It is one pole of the nodal axis along which eclipses fall. Read it by house and aspect to see where matters are magnified.
Lean in — Lean toward your North Node even when it feels unfamiliar; that is the growth.
Watch for — Retreat to old comfort when the North Node's path feels hard; the discomfort is the point.
